I don't know how many times I can say it before it becomes old, but the basic tenet of my philosophy is that I'm not going to go completely raw. I'm not even going to go mostly raw, at least not any time soon. And for the past two weeks, I've been eating less raw food than before.
The reason is that it just hasn't been fitting into my schedule. I haven't been able to get up the energy and enthusiasm to make something. I haven't been interested in making cooked food either.
But, there are certain things I have not changed, and not given up: morning green and fruit smoothies. This is the one thing that even when I'm really not doing anything else, it's what I keep on the eating schedule.
Today, I finally returned to my proposed schedule. Lunch was raw veggies and a raw pate/dip, with a side of short grain rice (prepared Japanese style, which involves rinsing and soaking the rice prior to cooking). Breakfast was an apple, orange, raspberry, romaine smoothie. Tonight, I'm going to make some more smoothies that involve mangos and bananas. I have noticed that smoothies that don't include something substantial like a mango (or papaya or banana) are not as filling. It makes it hard to go through the day without snacking.
So, a reminder to myself and to all others trying to get into Raw Foods--you don't need to go 100% raw on even the second month. You don't even have to stay super healthy. You can eat a Chicken burger on sprouted grains bread with tomato, lettuce, ketchup, and mayo with a side of beans and Mexican rice (like we did last night). You can have curry vegetables with udon noodles (like we did the night before). You can have tuna with chopped celery, short grain white rice, steamed broccoli, stir fried carrots and water chestnuts, and raisins (like we did for lunch the other day). And, yes, you can even have Basil chicken with phad noodles, medium grain rice, and a side of fries (like we'll be having this evening at our local Viet Thai bistro we try to visit once a month).
But, tomorrow we'll be having our standard morning smoothie. Lunch will involve a raw pate and dipping vegetables. It'll also involve meat, and rice. And that's okay.
